Madhvacharya - A beginners guide to his life and philosophy:
This booklet is intended to provide an introduction to the life and works of shrI madhvAchArya.
The intended audience is teenage children and laymen interested in knowing more about shrI madhvAchArya and dvaita,
the philosophy propounded by him. A Question & Answer format has been used in order to answer some of the basic
questions that people beginning this journey of enquiry may have. The objective is to provide information in a simple and easy to understand manner.
We want to whet the appetites of these inquisitive minds so that they can proceed to study these concepts in a more formal fashion.
This booklet has been produced by the amateur volunteers of VMS. We have drawn freely from the books of famous scholars of dvaita philosophy
such as Dr. BNK Sharma, Dr. KT Pandurangi and others. We want to thank them for permitting us to use their material.
This booklet is intended to be the first one in a series on important mAdhva personalities.
Vijaya Kavacha
It gives us great pleasure to release the booklet from
VMS within a year of Shri Madhvacharya booklet. shrI vijaya dAsaru was a great saint,
haridasa and philosopher in the mAdhva tradition shrI vijaya
dAsaru was responsible for the revival of the shrI haridasa
sahitya in the 17th and 18th centuries. The movement
was in dire straits after the fall of vijaya nagar empire and
dislocation of the Hindu society. shrI vijaya dAsaru single
handedly started the renaissance of the Haridasa movement.
He collected all the available shrI purandara dAsa compositions
which were about to be lost and put them on paper. For
this alone, followers of haridasa literature and music should all be indebted to shrI vijaya dAsaru.
